Rubies and Potters Guest – Soji Oni
Our special Rubies & Potters guest on FamilyRubies today is no other than Soji Oni, CEO SOJIONI Wedding Photos Nigeria.
Rubies & Potters is a section on our blog where we bring to you great minds doing great things!
We’re taking time out to celebrate them and showcase them to the world in our own beautiful way.
Join this train, and let’s do this together.
Good day Mr Soji Oni, where are you originally from and where are you currently based?
Good day, I am from Ilesha in Osun state and I’m currently based in Lagos, Nigeria.
What is your faith/religious belief?
I am a Christian. “A list”, heaven candidate
When is your birthday?
I was born April 16, 1984. I made your list of Under 35 CEOs (hahaha, good job man!)
Can you share a little of your educational background with us?
I had my primary education at Christian Council of Nigeria Primary School. I went on to attend Command Day Secondary School Ojo. I obtained a diploma in ICT and Data base management and a B.Sc in Accounting from the University of Ilorin. Once I went into Photography full time, I proceeded to the New York Institute of Photography to obtain a certificate in photography and I also bagged a post graduate diploma(PGD) from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.
Do you still practice Accounting?
Nah, I never practiced Accounting for a day.
Okay, so why did you study Accounting initially?
I studied Accounting initially because growing up I thought Accountants were cool including bankers. These were adorable professions. It is a thing of pride to be called an Accountant, isn’t it? But with time, I found out it wasn’t my thing at all.
Alright, please tell our readers what you currently do for a living.
I am a natural story teller. I freeze time and moments. In simple words I’m a Photographer.
At what point did you decide you were putting Accounting aside and going into Photography full time?
When I attended Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF) in University (College) I got to know that I was not going to work for anyone. The revelation was that I was going to own a business. So I knew I had to create a world of my own. As God will have it, I didn’t do so well despite all the effort I put into this course called Accounting. Thus, without wasting time after graduation I started working towards creating my own source of living. Photography is my passion. It is what I enjoy doing not Accounting.
Please share some of your memorable moments as a Photographer with us.
Wow, I have so many memorable days and events as a Photographer. So many…but I will share just two I remember vividly.
One memorable day was when I covered a wedding and it was aired on CNN. I saw myself very active on duty. I loved it.
Another memorable day was when I had an appointment with a Governor in Nigeria. Once I filled the guest form and it was time to meet with him. He came out, saw me and asked, “where is Soji Oni himself? It is your boss I want to see”. Hahahaha… *laughing and crying*
How did your parents react to your move from Accounting to full time Photography?
My parents have been my greatest supporters from day one.
Describe yourself in one word?
Loyal
What motivates you?
Beautiful people
What is your favorite life quote?
Success is never ending, failure is never final
Who is your mentor?
Pastor M.A Oni (My dad)
Do you have a political ambition?
I don’t have any political ambition but I would love to be an Ambassador for my country.
If you could turn back the hands of time, what course would you have studied in the University?
Maybe Performing Arts
A lot of Nigerian youths have lost faith in the country what advice can you give them?
Be strong, hold on, keep keeping on.
