Shine while at it..

I just stepped down to pick up a can of soda at the company’s cafeteria and the whole place looked deserted, quite unusual for a regular Tuesday afternoon at work. I looked to see if I had come down too early or too late for lunch, but no, I was just in time.
Suddenly, I looked up at the grill section, “she is not there today”. That lady was not there; I remembered she had mentioned during a casual chat the previous week while she prepared my order that she would be going on vacation this week starting yesterday. Right where I stood, I knew for the rest of the week I had to bring my lunch from home if I didn’t want to starve.
I wish I know her name, I should ask her as soon as she returns, yes the lady who makes the grill section daily lunch special. She is exceptional. She is a PRO…she grills wonderfully, customer service and customer relations? Excellent! How she knows what everyone eats for breakfast and lunch overtime with the number of employees she serves every day is amazing, the speed at which she takes your order and prepares your meal is another fantastic thing I observed. Then the friendliness, and the extra step to get to know people, she was just very different from other workers at the cafeteria, she stood out. That unusual quietness that storms the cafeteria whenever she takes more than a day off in a week is understandable. The moody look and dissatisfaction most employees wear while they are attended to by whoever is standing in for her is undeniable. In fact, I always pity whoever is standing in for her. They come across as inefficient and clumsy even though they are not…they just look out of place, why? Because one lady does it better. They don’t just get it the way she does, and her warmth is not possessed as much by any of them. You see people turning back from the stairway once they see she is not around…lol it seems funny, but she has undoubtedly created a niche for herself. I feel strongly that the management of the company’s cafeteria services must have observed this too, they definitely lose money when she is not around. This got me thinking and of course spurred this write up….
Everyone needs to carve a niche for themselves in an area of life, in character or whatever they find themselves doing. Choose not to be average in whatever you do or wherever you are. It doesn’t start one day, but let the image of the intended end be in mind. No man is indispensable but some can be irreplaceable…Oh yes! Be exceptional, strive for excellence, it could be in the very least of things, at work, in church, in your relationship with people, on the job, the way you execute things, your leadership style, your role in the family, your parenting approach, your career, your superior/subordinate relationship style…It could be your integrity, friendliness, punctuality, devotion, faithfulness, humor, loyalty, humility, dependability, accuracy, diligence, it could be anything really and anywhere towards any course BUT whatever it is, let there be that time when someone can say of you, if XXX was here. Believe me, deposited in every one is that seed and ability to shine outstandingly in one area of life. You only need to identify yours, groom it and SHINE WHILE AT IT.

Totally agree, some people cannot be replaced, for distinguishing themselves in certain things. My former boss! #DrOlumide, I can so relate
Thanks for stopping by NG78Talks! Yaay! go out and carve that niche.
